Hunter’s Moon is the Anglo-Saxon name for the Full Moon of October, when game is fattened, and preparations begin for the coming winter. This would traditionally include hunting, slaughtering and preserving meats.

It is also known by other names Winterfylleth (Winter coming), Windermanoth (Vintage Month), Falling Leaf Moon, Ten Colds Moon, and Moon of the Changing Season.

It is also known as Blood Moon, relating to the hunting season, and not to be confused with the Blood Moon that occurs during a Total Lunar Eclipse.

The Irish name for the month of October is Deireadh Fómhair (Harvest’s end). This is marked as the Halloween Holiday in Ireland. The red glow of the Autumn sky is dearglach (dyarg-glock). A lovely name for a beautiful sunset/sunrise!

Correspondences you can use to work magic with this month’s energy:

Nature Spirits:   frost faeries, plant faeries

Herbs:               pennyroyal, thyme, catnip, uva ursi, angelica, burdock

Scents:              strawberry, apple blossom, cherry

Stones:              opal, tourmaline, beryl, turquoise

Trees:                 yew, cypress, acacia

Animals:           stag, jackal, elephant, ram, scorpion

The energy of this Full Moon is encouraging us to take heed of the lessons of Venus and to work on our relationships and connections, or to let them go if they are no longer serving us. Any problems that came up during the New Moon will come to head under the influence of the Full Moon, but as Taurus Earth energy is very grounding and carries with it a sense of stability and strength, it’s not one for ‘letting go’.

Taurus likes a comfortable life and doesn’t like to dig too deep with their emotions, causing problems with expressing or even recognising them. Any emotional baggage is going to get stuck and we’re going to feel it in our physical bodies. Yoga, massage or snuggling with your partner can bring comfort and healing.

This energy is calling for your need for stability and calm amongst the change and chaos. Doing this will require strength but will allow you to react, respond, and receive from a higher vibration, a place of compassion and forgiveness. This energy teaches us that by keeping grounded, even when the leaves fall and the grass dies, we will survive the winter. As sure as Winter will come, Spring will follow.

Venus governs our finances as well as our hearts, so take care not to act on impulsive purchases and over-indulge. Using the grounding energy of Taurus to review and balance where your time, energy and money is going, can create more security in your life.

Some ritual ideas for this month:

Create a sacred vibe by lighting candles, burning incense, sharing healthy treats and surrounding yourselves with plants or flowers.

Practice Chandra Namaskar a fantastic way to deepen your connection to the Full Moon’s Energy.

Chandra Namaskar (Moon salutations) allow us to honour the yin or feminine side of our energy, in contrast to Sun Salutations, which are more yang, or masculine, in nature. However, moon salutations are not just for women! Men can reconnect, realign and cool-down fiery impulses through this sequence too. It helps to shift energy without increasing heat in the body and tends to be less stimulating than Sun Salutations, thereby balancing hot emotions, relaxing and calming the mind and body and restoring balance.

Download this beautiful, soothing and grounding sequence here: https://www.jyotiholistics.com/moon-salutations-chandra-namaskar

If you would like to follow your practice with a very powerful womb blessing to awaken the Sacred Feminine within, here is an invitation to receive a free distant Womb Blessing attunement to all women everywhere.

I was introduced to this wonderful Womb Blessing Attunement whilst on holiday in Arillas, Kerkyra in August.   This was a beautiful experience for me to celebrate the Full Moon’s Energy and would highly recommend it if you feel it resonates with you.

Finish off with a lovely Full Moon Bath Soak using the herbs you prepared and placed on your altar on the New Moon. You can purchase herbs and essential oils for next month's New Moon here: https://www.jyotiholistics.com/shop/FULL-MOON-BATH-SOAK-p118519606
